Description

This is one of the first drawings I've done this quarter in my figure class that I'm actually really happy with. So umm.. yeah. Makes me feel kind of like that dirty pedophile Degas to be drawing a bellerina.

Lovely piece all around!

As several others have already noted, you are a natural with the texture thing. (Now I'm a bit jealous. Texture is one of the things I'm working on right now. grr.) The tree, the skirt, the bodice, and the implied depth of the foliage are carried off like a pro!

I'm also rather enamored with the piece in terms of tension and movement. Your colors are wonderful for giving our eyes a smooth path to follow, as the eye first grabs onto the reds of your foreground and are gradually drawn into the green foliage with the use of the neutral brown in the tree trunk. Yay you. You keep a good sense of tension by using the reds to concentrate the focus on the details in the foreground while the contrasting greens are subtle and sketchy. Again, Yay. :woot:

I'm gonna be nit picky now, but that's just because your work is very good and I'd love to see you think about the little ways to be even better. (Mind you I'm definitely not the be-all-end-all authority on art, so if you don't agree with me, you are most welcome to disregard my inane rambling  ) Any who, here it is:

Couple tiny anatomical problems, but their not glaringly obvious and don't really detract much from the piece as a whole.

Did you sketch the foreground and background separately? Slight problems with the two in terms of agreeing light sources, though I suppose it could be from dappled light through the branches of the tree...

Make your brights BRIGHTER! :woot: Especially the fabric and the skin. Also the reflections on the metal.

But on the whole, GREAT JOB!
