This is an illustration I did to go along with Orson Scott Card's short story "Kingsmeat" (for my adv. computer illustration class)

The story is about this little village where there is this guy known as the shepherd who goes about harvesting parts off of people to serve to the king. The king is, of course, a squidlike space-monster that demands meat, and the village is a space colony it invaded and took over. The main theme is how far to go to save lives: is it worth living with the knowledge that your limbs and bits are free game to be taken away and fed to the squid king? The shepherd -did- save the colony though...

While the story is science fiction, I still classify this one as being fantasy because, well, it is. Most of the imagery that was used fit very well into a fantasy setting.
